Every fall, Shibuya’s beloved drinking alley, Nonbei Yokocho holds a festival to promote Japanese drinking culture and help out it’s local hole-in-the-wall bars. This event is organized by students from Aoyama Gakuin University, who will be scattered around the area wearing traditional Japanese happi, handing out drinks left to right. In one of the alleys, you’ll find numerous stalls lined up where you can taste all kinds of unique Japanese liquor and sake. They’ll also be carrying around a barrel of sake on a mikoshi throughout the area, and have musical performances just outside the bars. Unlike your average weekend at Nonbei Yokocho, this festival will pack the streets with both locals and tourists, making it the perfect place to mingle with fellow sake lovers.
