If you take your steak super seriously, you’re going to want to read (and also eat) this. Earlier this year, we reported on the list of winners from the World’s Best Steak awards, but at Time Out, we’ve tapped into our own network of experts from around the world to compile a list of incredible places to get your medium-rare meat fix.

From shiny South American steakhouses to old-school Portuguese eateries, these places officially serve up the best steaks on the planet – but the winner might just surprise you.

‘We don’t have world-famous steakhouses in Agadir,’ says our local expert Sally Kirby, but that hasn’t stopped the city in southern Morocco being home to the world’s best steak.

To get in on the smokey, salty, juicy action, head to El Toro, ‘a lively, slightly touristy, Spanish restaurant that serves surprisingly amazing steaks’, and order the fillet, medium-rare.

‘I’ve tried the entrecote, fillet and t-bone, the latter cooked at the table. Fillet is my favourite: tender, flavoursome and perfectly cooked,’ says Kirby.

A 16 oz. Florida cracker striploin, cooked medium-rare, from luxe, waterside steakhouse Klaw in Miami comes in at number two. ‘Our cut was juicy and tender, and though it came with a side of two delicious sauces, we found its wood-fired flavour shines best on its own,’ says Time Out Miami editor Falyn Wood.

The title of third best steak on the planet goes to a medium-rare bitoque from Adega Solar Minhoto in Lisbon. If you’ve never heard of bitoque, it’s a classic Portuguese dish – ‘Imagine a perfectly cooked steak, just the right thickness, swimming in a garlicky sauce and served with golden fries, rice, and a fried egg on top,’ says Time Out Lisbon’s food and drink editor Cláudia Lima Carvalho – and this particular bitoque is worth shouting about thanks to Adega Solar Minhoto’s delicious sauce and old-school charm.

A rib-eye from La Cabrera in Buenos Aires and Clover Grill in Paris’s Black Baltic rib-eye round out the rest of our top five. Basically, if you’re big into meat, these places are worth planning your travels around – check out the list of the top 10 here.
