Meeting someone who went to school in a different country to you can be super insightful. Everything from the time lessons kicked off to their school sport can sound a million miles away from your own experience.
Speaking of a million miles away from your own experience – a brand-new ranking of the world’s best private schools has just been released. Spear’s 500 school index sheds light on the world’s ‘top flight’ private schools, assessing each school's academic standing as well as social and pastoral factors through data collection, online forms and interviews.
London did particularly well this year, with famous institutions like Harrow and Westminster making Spear’s 500 index. You can read more about those here.
But the rest of Europe got plenty of recognition for its finest schools, too. Schule Schloss Salem in Germany is a place where students are encouraged to get involved in their local communities, whereas at St Julian’s in Lisbon, a school popular with international families, the headmaster has a puppy who makes daily appearances. Swiss schools were so good that they got their own category, with 10 entries including Brillantmont International School, which overlooks Lake Geneva.
On the other side of the world, 26 schools in the Asia Pacific made the list, including Raffles Institution, which is one of the oldest schools in Singapore, while in the Middle East there were 18 entries, such as Doha College and Repton School Dubai.
